SUMMARY:Black and White' International Juried Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:International Deadline: June 29, 2014 - Mpls Photo Center
announces a call for entry for the upcoming juried exhibition, \"Black
& White\". Open to photographers worldwide. All Black and White image
ry is eligible for submission. This includes alternative process, trad
itional, digital, and toned black and white images. All subjects are w
elcome.\nBlack and White photography is a stern mistress. No dazzling
color behind which to hide. While color is of course wonderful, B&W mo
re grasps the moment by the throat and better distills the essentials
in the act of communication. I look forward to seeing rigorously consi
dered and heartfelt artistic expressions, that embody the notion that
while the photograph is indeed an object of art, it is really there to
deliver a message from human to human. When students ask me how to ge
 t a show in a gallery, I always reply, \"First, get a life...do someth
ing out there worth sharing as a 'story' to be told through your art.\
" Yes, everything out there has been photographed to death - but not b
y You. Try to show us through your art, something only you have to say

the better part of two decades dealing in used and rare books, while
pursuing his art.\nIn 1997, Berlanga became Director of the Stephen Da
iter Gallery, Chicago. The gallery offers a range of work but speciali
zes in vintage photographs, with an emphasis on modernist experimental
and social documentary subject matter. As director he chose artists t
