critique based on clearity

I'm not sure if the key parts of this piece stand out enough in their environment. There are 5 parts to this work that are supposed to be clearly distinguished from the background. 2 are characters in the foreground, one is a serpent like creature in the middleground, and the last two should be easy to pick out in the background if I did my job right.  

the environment is a stony mountainside and the top of a forest in the distance. please critique based on spacial illusion and clearity
