Hey Barb, I am glad you found the discussion and the stop sign file and glad they both are helpful to you. I wrote them mainly to help clarify it all for myself, since they are lessons that need to be learned again and again, not just once.

Marty, thank you so much for that write-up. Very enlightening!! I've been and still deal with some of those 'stops'. It's helped me to see I just need to put one foot in front of the other instead of worrying how I'm going to get 'home'.
Everybody, if you haven't read, 'The 10 Stop Signs on Creativity Road' do it.

Hello Marty,
All your points make so much sense and I particularly appreciated #5. When I started to promote my art I found it hard to believe that some people wouldn't like it. How could that be?!!! It really made me question my ability to create 'worthy' art, then again, what is 'worthy'? Since then I've gotten over it because, as an artist, I can't quit creating and I like what I do. I decided to please myself and be happy in the moment of creation(point #1). I've also found by working on it…

I decided to please myself and be happy in the moment of creation(point #1). I've also found by working on it in public, that though a few people are not interested, the majority are and I have fun talking to them about it. I only wish I had heard these points years ago but it's nice to know I'm on the right track.
btw, John Little's work is available through Thomas McCormick in Chicago http://www.thomasmccormick.com, and they have a catalogue of his work. his work is also available thru a gallery in NYC, but i can't remember the name at the moment - very small "in home" gallery.

Here is the essay I wrote last year, 'The 10 Stop Signs on Creativity Road'. It is copyrighted so please request permission to reproduce it on a blog or in print.

It was written primarily with photographic artists in mind, but the ideas are universal for artist and other creative people.
Thanks for reading,
Marty, I can see my biggest problem in point #4. A six day work week can deffinately give me a reason to sit on the couch and play all night on the computer. At night, when my family is in bed, I am still awake. This is my most creative time, but many nights I slack it off. I can re-read this point over and over. Yeah, ya got me.
