I went back to art some time soon after I attended the Paul Gauguin exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago that went on quite awhile ago (the retro back in the 80's).
At ARTIC that day, I found I instantly loved Picassos nude painting of Fernande Oliver, the one done in terra cotta colors, and also much the Modigliani painting of a red haired girl holding a cat.
I find it was the absence of the flesh that eluded me within some of the other galleries. A lack of humaness?
I remember getting a glimpse of Spirit of the Dead Watching through that huge crowd. I've been able to see it at the Art Institute again last year (fantastic show). Its overwhelming.
I made this painting in 2007, two years out of undergraduate school.
I used both tigers eye genuine and tigers eye burnt oil paints together.
I wanted it to be powerful.
Is it strong?
