Hi Alison,
Oh my goodness! A dancer (I would be excited and scared, too) and a chef? When do you find time to work?
I hope you have a wonderful trip and I will try to keep you posted about the Mastermind Discussion.
Take care, Cyndy
Alison,
Your idea about answering alot of open calls is one way of getting yourself out there. Remember this could be a full time job. I work full time .But my job is so flexible that it works for my art work.
I joined as many local art groups as possible. Then weeded out the ones that I did'nt really fit in to. That is so important when looking for a gallery , where do you fit in? I certainly do not fit into a gallery that sells landscapes for example. I got my first gallery representation by answering a open call for their first juried show. From that relationship I met so many artists and have been involed with alot of projects with those artists.I am lucky with this group of artists because they share with ieach other. We started our own gallery since the original gallery is now closed. I live right out side NYC . Now that's the market that I am trying to break in to. Tough nut to crack. Especially in this economy.
Try to go to as many gallery opening receptions as you can . That's how I built a relationship with a gallery that I will be showing in next year. Alot to think about. Good luck . Let me know how things go.
