Curator’s Comment:

It’s so nice to see the scope of your work- from physically scumbled, worked surfaces to this smooth and elegant work. I enjoy how the leaf-like shape crosses over into another color field and seems to pierce an undulation of color.  The light intensifies at that point of contact, suggesting an exchange of energy.  The thin, orange horizontal band grounds the work, and tethers all of the gestural, organic figuration.  Again, I like how the tonal range changes after crossing the imposed linear threshold. While your Bird Spirit Caught in a Mindscape has a divergent aesthetic, and is much more vigorous, the counter play of line and visual field still helps to divide and reign in the broader fields of gestural mark making.   This play with a controlled modeled element, such as the bird skull or leaf, provides a beautiful foil to the unrestrained painterly surface in the work.
