"Evanescence"
Series Statement
This series of monotype prints, “Evanescence” also known as the hummingbird prints, came to life almost immediately after the passing of my grandmother; a loss that had more impact on me that I could have expected. Challenged by social and family stress, I sought to create a place of solitude and harmony, a place to escape; somewhere I could observe and be observed by a memory brought forth, a singular image of beauty. Within this body of work, I have attempted to deconstruct the complexities of my life and the impressions that have flooded my consciousness, then to simplify these impressions in an attempt to unearth new truths and find moments of rest.
Building compositions directly on printing plates with little preconception of the finished designs allows a subconscious narrative to develop that transcends the images made. It often takes weeks of observation and experimentation for me to decipher the symbolism of my creative process. Hopefully my art will ignite a spark in the viewer’s mind, triggering stories and imaginations of their own.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
