Natural Impressions Series of Prints

Natural Impressions
Series Statement

This is a relatively new series that is an extension of my “Evanescence” series. The “Natural Impressions” series came initially from a need to relieve myself from the stresses of more methodical series projects. It allows me the freedom to be a bit more spontaneous and expressive while showing my love for nature. These monoprints incorporate etchings and collography/embossment techniques into the monotype printing process. I use elements in nature, such as... leaves, flowers, grasses, etc. to emboss and leave there impression on the plate as I work on each print. I find these inspiring elements while walking down the street or on my visits home to the country. The process is generally much more freeing for me than many of my other series endeavors. I start the compositions with the hummingbird etchings being the defining element to the plate layout and work around the subject building spontaneous environments. The etchings of my “hummies” continue to show my love for the hummingbird, but it also continues to convey the fragility of life. The hummingbird not only expresses fragility, but, to me, it also embodies the spirit of my past grandmother. I will contuinue to evolve this series. Currently, I have found enjoyment in using multiple plates for each print to add more depth to my pieces while adding more spontaneity to the process.
