Knowing the origins of the forms makes me like it even more!  Thanks for responding.

Thanks you got it resident curator. The forms do come from Turitella Shells. Turitella is the title of this piece, which is currently installed in fromt of a white church in Hinsdale, MA, The Berkshires.

Curator’s Comment:

These sculptural forms enjoy a comfortable harmony with the landscape, due to their organic texture, color and figuration.  But the installation is also whimsical in the repeated tilted projections.  The pointed tips evoke giant screws, pushing up through the grass in reverse fashion, as if they’re growing upwards or are being pushed up from underneath. Viewed as independently standing totems, their heavier bases keep them securely anchored to the ground, as I perceive the slightly off-kilter teetering of disparate angles to be intentionally animating.  I’m also curious if their proximity to the water in this shot makes me contemplate aquatic origins of their design, as upon longer viewing they suggest common twisted pond snails blown up to a colossal scale.
