Curator’s Comments:
I’ve been looking at your series of photographs of boots, trying to determine if they’re in a sequential narrative. I can’t make out a decisive storyline, and alternatively think they may have been intended to function as standalone individual portraits. But looking more closely at each photograph, I’m actually most attracted to this landscape devoid of a human subject. The grooves in the smoother rock surface seem to act as directional devices for linear perspective, focusing my attention on the smaller rock formation in shadows below. The stacked stones show a deliberation or unexpected intentionality in the open, unencumbered space. Compositionally, I appreciate how their visual weight counterbalances the cooler blue landscape above the edge of the rock horizon. It’s an interesting spatial dynamic, suggesting human presence in an otherwise remote natural setting.
