Curator’s Comments:
Morning Sunshine is a superb still life rendering, offering a lush, idealized arrangement of sumptuous form. The stacking of the fruit offers a slightly unexpected arrangement, while the reflected light of the glass enhances the vibrancy of the bright orange hues. I find the diagonal striping that occurs from the reflected vase surface nicely breaks up both the subject in the positive space and ground. The horizontal bowl in the background is also an interesting object pairing, as it intersects the foreground vase at the precise point at which is curves into the lip. This compositional decision is curious, seemingly to intentionally reiterate the ellipses in the vessels. While I like the slightly offset symmetry of the primary subject matter, I do find my eyes moving to the upper right corner, to try and focus on the small amount of reflected brown light which is counterbalancing the larger forms.
