Bay Breeze is a poetic mixed media drawing, embodying the skilled rendering of the central organic subject matter alongside more graphic blocks of color and occupied space.  I’m drawn to the contrast between surfaces in each of the compartmentalized sections. In particular, I love the choice of split complementary red-violet and yellow, paired with high chroma, primary red. The thin wires that dip down into the top of the picture plane are vehicles for delivering urban sensibility and context as well as mechanical lines to accentuate the window panes and curvilinear shadows in the blowing drapery. It is a striking and unexpected combination of elements.
