Curator’s Comment:

The rich textural surfaces in your collagraphs are highly articulated and technically crisp, but it’s the softness of this image for me that carries the effectively ambiguous drama.  The duality of the twin boats tossing in the open hazy air makes them seem unmoored and vulnerable.  The thin lines of the masts provide some visual tension, and formal contrast.  I also am attracted to the multi-part gridded image titled Antarctic Waters. While utilizing a rainbow of warm and cool tinted hues, the individual drawings have a fine delicacy that attests to the subjects’ collective plight.  The exaggerated deckled edges of the small papers also indicate a feeling of significance and preciousness of the animals and organic figurations.  Shifting horizons within each compartmentalized landscape when viewed as a whole also carry movement and a subtle notion of instability.  This suite of mixed media prints and drawings is attractive, but what’s most impressive to me is the way you’ve introduced environmental issues in many of your pieces without being overly didactic or heavy handed. The viewer is lured into colorful depictions of the natural world and then contemplates its tenuous existence.
