Curator’s Comment:
This image of water borders on the nonobjective at first glance. While I’m still uncertain of dimensions or media, there is an illusionistic quality to the diptych, and fluidity fittingly associated with the intended subject. I personally prefer this muted palette to your other more vibrant imagery, but can see how those other pieces may call for a more charismatic approach to color. The violet undertones here create a depth of space, but also a feeling of suppressed urgency with the reddish highlight. In addition to the color choices, I also enjoy the strong horizontal pull of the lines. It’s an unexpected movement, as the droplets are suspended from a larger body of water but don’t acquiesce to gravitational drop. The relieved symmetry restricts any feeling of visual rest and activates the space in its momentary liquefied transition.
