Curator’s Comments:

I just encountered the gorgeous piece entitled Butterfly, Framed and Dried. Looking back through your work on the site, I remember admiring the amorphous and dreamy series including Sleep.  I’m not sure how I could have passed over Butterfly, since it is highly imaginative and quite mysterious.  The contortions and distortion of the female subject are disturbingly beautiful; she looks broken somehow, as her languid limbs don’t fully engage.  Her eyes, not entirely closed, are obscured to the viewer, giving the initial impression of sleep. The sheer white gossamer garment that wraps her body unfolds into a curious white form on the left, small furry or feathered animal.  It appears to climb up into the top region of metamorphosis, which contains the subjects head. The degree of realism elsewhere in the image twists the minds understanding of the ripples moving through the subject.  I’m also not sure I understand the title of the piece, though it does call to mind the capture and preservation of a fragile being for another’s pleasure.
