Thanks Dennis. Hopefully these space constraints will offer an opportunity to explore new directions.

Thank you, Kristen. I certainly appreciate your time and critique. I am out of space in my studio as the gallery said to pick up my work except for two pieces. So I did a wall sculpture. The next one(s) will be Lollipops. One red,one yellow, one blue. All wall pieces. Need to sell some work, like everyone else.

Stay well and thank you again.

Curator’s Comment:

Thank you for calling my attention to your new piece- I had to double check your name when it was posted to be sure it was in fact your sculpture! Cariad appears to be a complete departure from your previous work on the site in all formal approaches except for the basic use of metal. Instead of geometric, outward projecting elements, the heart shape wrapped in metallic bands visually pulls inward, onto itself. The wrapped tip of the heart’s point at its base is the only reinforced area that offers a stabilizing linear pattern. All other linear elements appear to be erratically positioned. I do detect a greater density of layered straps in the center of the work, with perhaps fewer connections to the outermost frame. It’s a curious but perhaps apt analogy for the human heart; unified in its chaotic workings. But with more consideration, the shape itself is not a human heart. So perhaps the intent was not to contemplate the emotional flux at all, but to formally draw on familiar pop iconography. Either way, it appears to be a playful departure from the cantilevered tensions in recent sculptures, while introducing new forms and methodology into your visual vocabulary. I’ll be interested to see what emerges next.
