Curator’s Comments:

This idyllic rolling cliff scene is an ideal subject for your signature saturated color palette.  The lush mossy green grass is alive with bustling energy against the pale grey water and roads.  These visual rests along with the openness of the sky, for me, make the picture. There’s almost a dizzying momentum in the textured surfaces below, additionally studded with the dots and dashes of the road and undulating fence.   The larger proportion of sky to the landscape moves the pictorial space upwards, bestowing a feeling of awe and magnificent wonder to the space below. While location is clearly identified in the title of the piece, it’s almost as if a fanatic version of the place has been captured through heightened color and light.  I also favor the formal restraint shown in the photograph entitled The Wild Roses. The delicate veins in the flower petals radiate out from the higher chroma yellow stamens, forming fragile halos.  The small bits of green leaves poking through at two different intervals further inject some relief from the pink and yellow color scheme, and allow perceived openings in the otherwise tightly compacted composition.
