Curator’s Comments:

I’m intrigued by these sculptural works, which appear to be part of a larger Post-Industrial installation; setting ideas up against modernization, hand crafted objects and advanced technology.  As you so articulately and fluently express in your accompanying text to Key Piece, the antiquated parts reference manual labor and “evoke murmurs of the past.”  I’m also fascinated by the decidedly utilitarian presence of these ceramic components, which conjure bells or inverted vessels, or mechanically operated ceramic nozzles.  Of course the aesthetic depiction of a musical instrument is also visualized, perhaps because of its close proximity and relationship to the motorized Key Piece.  I recognize these were posted to the site quite some time ago, but I would be interested to see more installation shots of this particular work, as the cropping of the picture doesn’t offer a sense of how the piece connects to the ceiling or ground.  Your last slide offers scale, and I imagine the Ceramic piece also exists within the confines human proportions.
