Curator’s Comment:
I really like these warm sienna toned images. I would hazard a guess they are small etchings with aquatint because of the line quality and plate tone? The Mechanical Fish is my most preferred in the grouping because the delicate and intricate lines are balanced by a fair amount of quieter space. The visual rest provides the opportunity to fully explore the surreal figure on top with the antennae like appendages that tie into the organic gears of the faintly monstrous fish. I also particularly like the seaweed evoking lines supporting the piranha-shaped creature. Their linear striations formally support the larger mass of visual weight, but offer variation in surface density. The waving lines appear hairy, and seem to ensnare the ensemble, while pushing back into an amorphous tonal ground. Subtle changes in the background value further reinforce the sharper contrast in the primary human and animal figures- injecting a luminous glowing quality into the whites.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
