12 x 12 acrylics, crackle medium on canvas. Change refers to seasons but also a change in style for me, which really is not too surprising, since styles do change according to wherever a painting may lead.

I really appreciate your insightful critiques, Kristen. When I get back to painting with acrylics I will most likely continue using the crackle medium to help create textures and layering colors.

Curator’s Comments:

I’m pleased to see this new painting in a very different style from your main body of work on the site.  Change deftly mixes together dappled color in a murky, almost dream like space with concrete and recognizable signposts along the way.  The electric poles and receding painted line of the road lead the viewer to a blurred vanishing point in the center of the space, lending the composition stability with abstraction. The square format of the overall picture plane is also an interesting way to offset the predictability of the landscape.  The color palette and softened contrast further contribute to the inviting but mysterious space. Your caption references a change of season, but I find the work pleasurably ambiguous in this aspect.  While I enjoy your more sharply contrasted pieces, I do hope you continue in this light.  I would like to see where it leads.
