Curator’s Comments:

Cisco Grove Aspen came up randomly on the site today, and it was a nice opportunity to revisit your work.  The central emphasis on this tree within the landscape creates a feeling of both atmospheric expansion and compression, as the viewer recognizes the focus of one tree in a larger expanse.  The complementary hues in the luminous orange leaves and rocky blue and purple ground below set up a particularly strong spatial dynamic.  I’m curious about the inclusion of what looks to be a leveling off of a road just beyond the tree.  The decision to include the road invites the presence (or possibly intrusion) of people into the natural scene.  This painting makes me ponder the relationship longer after I’ve enjoyed the rolling hills, reflecting water and crystal blue sky.
