Clump Tetris…When I first read the piece’s title it rang with a certain familiarity, making descriptive associations with detritus- as in the dead particulate in organic matter…Of course the early video game of interlocking geometric shapes Tetris is also, and literally, most fitting.  That irony in the link between form and concept isn’t lost on the viewer, as the immediacy of the environmental elements is easily intuited. The primacy of the solid geometric square is enhanced by the dark paint; it’s plastic acrylic sheen playing against the organic green moss. The open frame overlapping the top square calls attention to the negative space within the piece, and makes what is absent feel solid. I appreciate the economy of the sculpture, overall, functioning very well as a paired down play between opposing two surfaces and ideas.  The single pale blue stroke of paint pulling away from the focal point of the intersection may in fact have been introduced to keep movement in an opposing direction.  Clump Tetris is quite different from your other works posted on the site.  While the adjacent works could be said to be more developed with imagery and competing organic elements, this piece seems to encapsulate some of the formal push and pull happening at the essence of the other designs.
