Curator’s Comments:

Corn Stalk (End of Harvest) is a satisfying image for the autumn season.  The depth of field poses the high contrast stalk in the foreground, while softening the contrast of the discarded husks further into the picture plane.  The limited color palette likely contributes to the spatial harmony.  I also appreciate the abstraction of the form, taken in close range; the spidery veins of the center stem animate the larger stalk, and suggest thin-legged appendages.  While the micro/macrocosmic relationships are evident in many of your other photographs of farmland, for me the cornstalk image becomes transformative through the cropping of its natural environment.  While not particularly romanticized or sentimentalized, the simple plant remnants provide beauty of the end of the harvest.
