Curator’s Comments:
These non-objective paintings seem to be examples of pure painterly expression. The red and blue pure hues further this intense sensation of visual primacy, in relatively equalizing propositions. Some scumbling of color or abrading of the paint surface with a knife appears present in the crimson overlaying pigment; with the ultramarine layer underneath revealed in small, erratic patches. While the scale of the actual painting isn’t indicated, this piece gives off a sensation of heavy visual weight. This may be partially due to the opacity and intensity of the color palette and overall dark value pattern, as well as the compositionally large mass of red on the blue ground. By the headings I’m wondering if these images are cropped from larger wholes, or if I'm viewing the works in their entirety. Either way, I’m hoping you’ll post some new work on the site.
