Curator’s Comments:

I’m not exactly sure what I’m viewing here, but I keep coming back to D & D.  Media isn’t indicated, and so I’m wondering if the surface reflects a digitized pixelation, or break in traditional (analog) pigment on a paper surface?  In either case, I’m attracted by the sensation of gestural accident and rawness in the application of and break in graduated color on a shaped support.  The slight tilt of the ground gives a haphazard or chaotic quality to the more gently modeled, amorphous texture.  The actual piece may read as object more than image. When viewing your other works on the site for possible aesthetic context, I’m struck by the degree of intentionality in the linear drawing versus the painterly mark making that appears more erratic and unplanned. Crying Face had a similar tension between order & chaos, and an equally ambiguous figure-ground relationship.
