Curator’s Comments:

Thank you so much for inviting me to look at your work. I find many of them just breathtakingly beautiful.  Some push the color into what appears to be a fantastical realm, or hyper saturated golden light.  My favorite of your landscapes is Early Morning Frost.  It seems to holds contradictory moods simultaneously, which for me creates substantial visual interest and mystery.   The lacey frost in the upper segments of the trees generates an icy lattice framework from which to appreciate the cool blue hues of the sky and moss green of the tree trunks.  But as my eyes move to the bottom of the picture plane the scene intensifies with almost effervescent yellow hues and orangey-brown earthen tones.  The central path succinctly leads the viewer into the wooded terrain, but attention is quickly pulled back up through the trees limbs because of the intricate line and complexity of color.  So the landscape is at once inviting, and also surprisingly cold and impassive.  I’m also attracted to the interior space depicted with the sleeping cat.  The more serene setting is still charged with warm energy, as the open composition color causes hues to move beyond shape borders and break into faintly unexpected patterns. The simple furniture creates architectural movement and harmony in the painting, nicely leading the viewer up to and through the space. I also find it interesting that the texture develops a synchronized harmony; this may be due to the specific type of digital manipulation.  While the effect is to somewhat soften the anticipated furry texture of the cat, it enhances what we would expect to be smoother, plain wooden surfaces.  It’s as if all objects are affected and transformed by the summer light.
