Comment
Thanks for your feedback, i painted this picture last year and as i was driving to the train station to collect my wife at the end of the day i just had to stop and take a photo on my mobile phone. I get the image i want in my paintings buy adding layers of thinned acrylic paint.
Curator’s Comment:
End of Day is a beautifully reflective painting, creating a somber mood of contemplation and repose. The small section of faded sunlight is reserved and functions well as a symbol of diminishing daytime energy and vigor. The car lights serve a similar function, but also inject a lonely human presence into the landscape, echoed in the yellow-orange light coming through the single opening on the left side of the picture plane. Formally, I like that the intense saturation of color balances the darkened shadows and almost silhouetted muted forms. There appears to be layered glazes of color. Of course it’s difficult to determine the actual paint surface online, but I’m curious about how you’ve achieved such complexity and depth of color in acrylic.
