Prancing Choreographer appears to be a fetish of sorts. Imbued with ritualistic function as the piece evolved from found materials, the result is stoic but whimsical. There’s an urgency or at least primacy to the predetermined gesture in the materials. As you state, the unobvious or unseen was brought out in the manipulation of the sculpture. But I also see the work as being somewhat precious- the pigmented marks careful adorn the twisted torso form, countering the raw surface of the wood. The truncation of the figure is also interesting. I can’t be sure what was intended with the head, but the scarring throughout the form and cut off branches that left circular gashes attest to the violent struggle of life. I realized you posted this piece on the site some time ago, but it’s worth a longer look.
