Greetings Linda:

I use Bay Photo (www.bayphoto.com) and I have beem well satisfied with their work.  You should understand that getting it printed on a panel is just the start.  I have the panels mounted flush on a light metal frame and the wire mounting ensures that the artwork hangs flush on the wall.  It is expensive; a 12"W by 18"H will cost slightly more than $131 to produce plus the shipping ($9+ regular; $13.20 for two-day shipping).  I do not know what you charge for your paintings, but if your markup is three times the cost to produce, your minimum price should be about $425.  I use it because I am basically a colorist producing realistic/representational art and the resultant picture is absolutely beautiful.  In exhibits that have voting for most popular painting in the exhibit, I win that designation quite regularly.

Thank you for the information regarding your artwork process. I, too, have heard of photographers having their images printed on an aluminum plate but never thought for doing that with my own digital artwork. I'll take a look online to find a service bureau, or maybe you can recommend one . . .

Hi Linda:

I use a Wacom Drawing Tablet, various graphics programs, and a PC to create my art.  The output from the process is a digital file of the painting.  I send the file to an online photography company that prints the painting on an aluminum panel.  It is not printed directly on the panel; the process infuses the ink into a specialty coating on the panel and it is then covered by a clear acrylic coating to protect the painting.  I got the idea from photography magazine articles about photographers printing their photos on metal panels.  I love the result.  The painting is very luminous, vibrant, exhibits brilliant color, and its longevity is two to four times that of a print on the best archival paper or canvas.  It resists scratches, it does not fade, and you can clean it with a damp cloth.  I hope that answers you question.  If you need more information, let me know.
