sous la pluie, je pensais

An artistic retort. It is the nature of abstract art to be lost on a certain audience [it can be a langue étrangère] – but should this be the case? In my youth, I was fascinated with nature, particularly spiders. It was important to know the scientific naming of hundreds of species when building an empire based on spiders. I learned a lot from those days, but I’ll leave that to inspire further art and stay on track here. This need for another language, solely for classification, lead to studying the nature of etymology – the origins of words – and the study of latin amongst other foreign languages. It is the ability to understand something from its roots – much like an abstract piece which must stimulate the specific responses in order to communicate. It can be daunting if work is lost on an audience, more so the apparent pressure to fulfil communication to the entire audience. I do not wish to strive for this in all cases as I feel it gives the art a unique freedom; the ball always being in the audience’s court. I experiment with dropping just enough stimulations in order to fully explore what is on my mind. This piece, is this concept, condensed in differing views and perspectives.

This aspect of art, using mild and ambiguous figurative art, built up with abstraction to deeply invigorate the topic is my primary interest. This piece is one of the keystones in my career and remains a deeply charged piece.

Original “sous la pluie, je pensais” will be on sale with Juxtaposed Galleries show, metropolis.
