Curator’s Comments:
I viewed the short film Strings and Stained immediately after viewing the graphic monochromatic print titled Free Omid Kokabee, and that first still piece’s communication no doubt carried over into the film. The repetitive nature of Strings was arguably more subtle than the poster, but it also provided nuanced universal connections that bridged the collective plights of others. Free Omid Kokabee obviously carries a bold and stylized image connecting nuclear symbols to barbed wire. That Kokabee’s research ultimately led to his incarceration is ironic, as the radial design also suggests Leonardo’s Vitruvian Man celebrating natural intersections of science and the human psyche.
