Curator’s Comments:
Temptress caught my attention as much by its title as by image itself. The graphite drawing presents as an anatomically accurate, if maybe slightly enhanced figurative work- academic in execution but suggestive of a larger narrative. This appears to be an interesting approach in your other drawings as well, as the titles layer a story or concept over technique. This cropped female figure is the most provocative of the grouping for me, and successful in its communication. The enriched chiaroscuro reveals heightened articulation of musculature. It could be interpreted that there’s a seduction in the extreme attention to detail- an interesting twist on the viewers’ initial assumption that the recumbent female is the inevitable temptress.
