Thank you for sharing these amazing paintings on the site! These three pieces present rich organic abstraction with graphic storytelling. I find myself most enamored with Hurricane Iniki Series: Fish Talk. The dark and turbulent waves give off a foreboding feeling of impending natural disaster, countered by the natural calm of the large coy in the bottom right corner. The s-shaped movement in the composition beautifully balances the forms within a symbolic narrative. The swirling phoenix and lotus flower growing from the human palm, for instance, suggest allegorically rebirth - the viewer conjures Buddhist and mythological associations, along with Picasso’s iconographic Guernica. The large scale of the physical painting no doubt underscores the drama of powerful forces at work. Whether from a Western or Eastern perspective, the symbol of hope promises renewal after the storm, but one also wonders if regeneration is in the power of human hands.
