no, everything is painted on site- no studio work yet, unless I'm painting a still life or interior of my studio. So old fashioned of me maybe.. but am still learning, so I paint everything from life to attempt and hone my observation skills. Of course this isn't always convenient, but I like it that way- it also makes life and painting more of an adventure..!

Thank you, I certainly will. So it looks like you make plein air sketches, and then translate them into larger paintings in your studio?

I love Florence! I lived there for 6 years before moving to Rome- Rome is definitely another animal..and gorgeous to paint. Please let me know next time you're in Italy.

I haven't been there in over ten years, I'm definitely overdue. I'm just three hours away by plane, but am busy trying to establish my art business, as I moved back here less than a year ago. I paint mostly figures at this point, but did murals for many years, therefore Firenze was a must for me to visit.

I didn't know that about California, I would have imagined it colorful like Italy! You're so right about the colors here and somehow it reflects the Italian personality. It's definitely one of the things I love about painting in Italy- all that rich color makes mixing up and putting the paint down that much more satisfying! Thanks so much for your comments Laurel. Are you a painter? Are you coming back to Italy anytime soon?

There's is city in So.California, called Irvine, with strict architectural guidelines. Everything is bland neutrals; it's horrible. When I was in Italy, especially Venice, I thought "Ah! These people are not afraid if color!"

I do love the bright colors of the houses in Italy. This is an old mad house on the outskirts of Rome which has now been turned into a public park overlooking the city, so the colored "houses" make even more of an impression..

Don't you just love the colors they paint houses there?
