Curator’s Comments:
This untitled image is interesting in its photographic resolution and simultaneous overall abstraction. The medium/process isn’t noted, but I imagine it to be a slightly altered digital image. The curvilinear distortions appear as darker reflections in the water, but the tightly cropped surface doesn’t clue the viewer into what could be reflected from above our sight line. The visual contrast in the values concentrated at the top of the image allow for a feeling of visual weight above; which again is undermined by the fluid weightless of water’s reflection. The related images in what appear to be a formally related series don’t offer much more compositional variation, forcing the viewer to contemplate the more subtle organic modulations. It is a peaceful surface, tracing the rippled movements.
