Curator’s Comments:
I enjoy this new painting you posted yesterday- it has an intriguing abstract quality than is suggestive of a figure in the foreground. The layering of space could be seen as multiple horizon lines, bringing the viewer all the way back to the higher chroma pinkish color in the upper left of the picture plane. The darker shape in the middle ground is equally as ambiguous; echoing the size and relative shape of the head of the figure down in front. I’m interested to see the figurative works that were posted just a few days or weeks apart, assuming you vacillate between a painting practice that is equally involved with formal abstraction/non-objectivity and figural narration. I’ve also noted some of your paintings posted earlier this year are noted as not having a title yet, but the later pieces don’t appear to be further worked or reexamined abstractions. This dual mode of expression has produced some strong and evocative results.
