Curator’s Comments:
These painted polyester heads read as a more solid and traditional material such as stone or wood; it’s interesting to contemplate the nature of the synthetic media with the implied works’ content. I’m particularly attracted to Loss, but would like to see the piece from multiple angles. The visible positioning of the piece suggests a suspension of visual weight, as the top of the form slips off the main structure, revealing a distinctly divergent color inside. The dark outer patina is most effective in contrasting this higher chroma hue. The viewer contemplates the disjointed and possibly ‘lost’ pieces of the whole while simultaneously viewing the piece as a gestalt. I also appreciate that the stepped base echoes the multi-tiered shape of the sculpture without adding excessive elements or decoration.
