Curator’s Comment:
The trace elements on the large color field offer a nice architectural or tectonic reference. They suggest a hidden passage into the layers in the case of the slightly curved lines, and a more geometric relationship with the arched lines, such as in "Bluffs". The reference to rust in the title helps guide me through the piece, imagining erosion and the patina of time. The faint shifts of warm tones provide depth, but the deckled edges of these pieces keep them in the realm of object, rather than image. Are you working with handmade paper? I could imagine these on a much larger scale, so that the shift between field and edge fluctuates- and I wouldn’t be able to see both image and edge simultaneously. This is a beautiful piece.
