Beyond The Surface captures the quintessential dream of flying. Depicting dramatic human perspective, the figure appears to shoot directly out of the center of the picture plane.  While created in traditional pastel media, the blue luminosity of her skin bears some semblance to the digital creations of radiant, mythical beings. She is serene, but heroic. The force of visual movement up and away from the landscape distorts the bands of stretched out buildings below, which appears to include an urban setting. The digital painting entitled Journey Back to the Womb bears an uncanny reversal of compositional movement, and illusion of space.  The embryonic imagery is soothing, but holds a boundless mystery of origin of the figure and self.  Without the specific features of the figure in the aforementioned piece, the body traveling back to the womb is archetypally and androgynously imagined. The jewel toned blue-violet and red hues are dazzlingly and glowing, conjuring a place of heightened spirit more than flesh and blood. While most of your paintings appear to include imagery related to metamorphosis and shamanism, the digital media is particularly suited to the amalgamation of photographic figures and supernatural light.
