Curator’s Comments:

The popularity of this figure painting on the site no doubt stems from the voyeuristic entry into the picture plane, and unusual cropping of the reclining figure. Just as her head turns slightly left, her thigh points back diagonally right into the space. The skillful handling of the reflective bath water adds another interesting element to the work.  The white curvilinear highlights of the water are understated and connect the upper and lower body while implying gentle movement. I find the smoothly blended color in the white porcelain of the tub itself to be seductively painted, as it reflects both fleshy warm and cool hues.  Quite different from your signature landscapes and animal paintings, the mood of this piece is more somber and formally objective. There doesn’t appear to be as much of a visual narrative as a work about the human form in the everyday. Along those lines, I don’t believe the model is intended to reflect the canon of feminine beauty, but is nonetheless a graceful form.

I really like the way you've painted the water and the way you have composed the painting.
