Curator’s Comment:
When I first saw this piece it reminded me of jewelry. At closer inspection I see that the media does have jewel like ornaments, or inclusions of cut glass. The circular shapes within the milky, haze like space also evoke celestial or austral planes. The mosaic like bits within the cropped quarter circle at the bottom right provides atmospheric depth, but is also somewhat disparate within the more subtle modulations of texture and color. I’m curious about the surface of the chain like elements that cross the top of the piece- they seem to be imbedded in the surface. Similar juxtaposition of circular and linear elements emerges in Trees in Space, but I find the surface of this ‘landscape’ having greater depth and luminosity. What lies beneath the surface offers more mystery and ultimately revelation, that what is immediately seen.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
