Curator’s Comments: 

 

I feel like less is more when viewing your paintings; Leaping Lover in particular has an economic strength that speaks to elemental forces.  The darkened ground suggests leaping into the void, or great unknown.  I like that the figure isn’t actually reduced to monochromatic silhouette, but is highlighted with subtly contrasting color. The yellow-brown scraped surface in the background connects the body to the picture plane, as the strong diagonal of the composition further creates accelerated movement.  Propelled forward, his outstretched arms become a wing span.  Adoration is also an intriguing piece, as the blackish-violet ground complements the graphic inclusions of the bright yellow flowers.  The female body matches the contours of the stems, infusing the piece with a rhythmic motion.
