Portfolios: Mixed Media Artist

It was a pleasure to come across your wealth of new pieces posted on the site yesterday! They all carry your signature abstract organic style, but I was struck by the comparative openness of Drift and Low Tide. Both works appear to contain an abundant layering of mixed media processes while reserving an expanse of thinner open space for contrast and contemplation. Drift in particular has an interesting relationship between the figural entanglements in the foreground and the distant horizon. The hazy blue water and sky sections blur the figure-ground relationship and keeps the viewer similarly adrift. Rather than creating a restful water picture, the heightened saturation of the surrounding blue envelops the organic matter with intense hues. It is a visually pleasurable piece, but one that could also makes one question the nature of ‘nature’ and artificiality.
