Curator’s Comment:

Just now coming across this third piece in your series entitled Luminescence, I’m stuck by the light that appears to be emanating from the extreme darkness.  The painting is quite different from the fresh and exuberant works with wide swaths of expressive primary color.  Even the two more figurative works sharing the same title diverge considerably in terms of formal value contrast and emotive mood.  I like the manner in which the edges of the primary form recede here, and ultimately dissipate into the dark ground.  But the brushstrokes are also visually contained and structured.  They appear to hold plastic form rather than gesture. Yet they put forth an otherworldly presence in the reflective and almost iridescent colors. Nothing has since been posted about scale or medium in the years since it was posted, but it remains an intriguing piece that seems to get at something quite primal, surfacing in our collective peripheral vision.
