I find the division of color and light in Masa Shadows to be uniquely appealing.  I appreciate the representation of the Arizona desert scene, but there are underlying design elements that move beyond the strength of the landscape. The darker, cooler chunks of blue-violet mountain in the background beautifully recede from an atmospheric standpoint, allowing the orange hued middle-ground to move diagonally through the piece. The thin dark almost vertical lines in the very bottom of the composition function as more textured ground, but also lead and point the viewer through the space.  The soft colors of the brush are actually high in chroma; subtly mixing warm and cool pigments to balance contrast.  The little bit of sky left in the upper corner of the work is a skillful way to open up the space and suggest a greater expanse beyond the solid hill.  I do hope you’ll continue to post more recent work on the site.
