Curator’s Comments:

Milton’s Universe is a beautiful and mysterious piece, but I’m not certain what I’m actually viewing.  Beyond the fact that the painting media and scale aren’t indicated for the work, I’m looking for the Biblical vignettes referenced in your notation.  This piece appears significantly more abstract than most of the other paintings you have posted.  However, I readily enjoy the evocation of organic forms within the centralized and luminescent light source.  The slightly shifting bilateral symmetry, along with the thin horizontal and vertical lines read as folded edges, as one views a classical Rorschach test. This may be an apt dichotomous relationship for Milton’s theological and literary theories about Heaven and Hell. The extreme contrast generated in the piece looks to contain actual radiating light. So while I can’t make out specific iconography or symbolic depictions, the piece enigmatically depicts universal Godliness. I understand this work was posted many years ago, and I’d love to see what you’re creating now.
