Curator’s Comments:
Mirage is a soothing non-objective piece, awash in what appears to be thin layers of pigment and solvent. While media isn’t indicated, the wash areas appear to contain illumination coming from underneath, with the white peeking out between drips and thin streams of opaque pigment. The square format creates a nicely balanced tension - rather than a standard rectangular ‘window’ into another world, the painting presents as an object in itself. Coming up randomly on the site, I recalled your other more gestural pieces. Mirage is filled with more subdued, and limited tonality. It’s almost like a palette cleaners between courses.
