Resident Curator Thank you! Yes I did leave some of the paper unpainted instead of layering it all with the ink and some acrylic paint. I have started a few more like this piece which I will post tomorrow dealing with scopes in nature/landscapes.

Curator’s Comments:

Welcome to the site!  There’s an interesting range of techniques and styles among these first landscape oriented paintings you’ve posted, as they span from fairly representational to non-objective.  To this end, I’m intrigued by the very abstract work Broken Scope in the context of the other organic imagery.  Whereas I might have viewed it as a purely formal painting concerned with the design aspects of line and color, the combination of the blue color scheme and title implies a sky viewed through an altered lens. The erratic crisscrossing of the sweeping contours is regular enough in nature to provide a harmonious space.  For me the intervals of lighter blue and white space breaks up the values of the interstices, and assumes a rhythmic and fresh flow of color.  While the medium isn’t indicated on all of your paintings, I wonder if the ink on paper accounts for the different handling of the pigment in this work.  The white has an airy brightness that appears to come from the unpainted paper, as opposed to the creamier or heavier application in several others.
