Often confused with fungi, the monotropa is actually a flowering plant that produces seeds. It is fertilized by ants, though I've often seen bumblebees on them. This plant produces no chlorophyll. It obtains nourishment from the interface between tree roots and the fungal mass in a healthy forest.
