I’ve admired your surreal figurative paintings for several years now, and this most recent piece, More Portrait Problems, doesn’t disappoint.  It does appear as though these most recent paintings are becoming a little more economic and pared down in composition, or at least less detailed throughout multiple subject areas.  The uninterrupted expanse of cerulean blue is particularly pleasing in this piece, as the sky melts into the sea, leaving the viewer to float along with the face in the environment, without solid footing. The small green peaks of land off on the horizon define the space somewhat, but could alternatively read as small islands against a continuing broad breadth of water. The disembodied face increases that sense of levitation, as the only spatial anchor comes from above, with the thin fishing line. My eyes are eventually lead into the upper left corner of the work, where a spatial anomaly could represent clouds in an otherwise cloudless sky, or something more far more extraordinary.
